General Industrial radial employ four distinct radial-wheel designs for use in moderate-pressure applications. Typical uses include dust collection, pneumatic-conveying, moisture blow-off, incineration and oven and dryer exhaust.
Flat radial-blade design best for material-conveying applications with airstreams containing coarse material or heavy dust and particulate matter. As with the radial-curved wheel, the LS and RIM wheels provide stable airflow performance over the entire pressure range, from wide-open to completely closed-off.
Unique, high-efficiency [up to 74% mechanical efficiency] radial wheel utilizes curved blades and a tapered frontplate to minimize turbulence and control flow through the wheel. Can be used for airstreams with moderate dust loads that do not contain large particles or wet, sticky materials. Performance is stable from wide-open to completely closed-off.
High efficiency shrouded wheels. AH is idealy suited for light to moderate dust loads. AM can accommodate heavier loads. Performance is stable from wide-open to completely closed off. BP wheel – backplate wheel designed for material-handling applications involving paper or plastic scrap and trim, granular material, and low-density bulk materials.
RD wheel – rugged-duty backplated radial wheel for high-density bulk material such as wood chips, corrugated paper trim, and metal scrap or trim. Constructed for static pressures to 20” WG.
Air moving fans and ventilators utilize power from a motor to generate a volumetric flow of air at a given pressure, and are considered low-pressure air pumps. A propeller converts torque (turning force) from the motor (typically permanent split capacitor AC induction motors or brushless DC) to increase static pressure across the fan rotor and to increase the kinetic energy of the air particles.

The flow and pressure properties are the main differences between a fan and a blower. While fans deliver air in an overall direction that is parallel to the fan blade axis, blowers deliver air in a direction that is perpendicular to the blower axis. Hence, fans can be configured to deliver a high flow rate, working against low pressure while blowers to deliver a relatively low flow rate against high pressure. Centrifugal blowers can be squirrel cage type, have a forward curved wheel or a backward curved wheel.

Another major difference is in the mechanism regarding restriction to the air-flow. In a blower, it has an opposite effect on the same motor driving a fan blade. For instance, the load on the motor decreases when the motor is driving a squirrel cage blower. As the system becomes clogged, the blower speeds up. On the other hand, the load on the motor increases and the fan slows down as the airflow system becomes clogged with fan blades.
